CSU Travel Restrictions - AB1887 (Gov't Code Section 11139.8)

December 8, 2016

Dear Principal Investigators and Research Administrators:

Attached, please find a letter from the Chancellor’s Office regarding California Assembly Bill 1887. As a result of this new law, as of January 1, 2017, the CSU will be restricted from requiring employees to travel to certain states. Additionally, CSU is prohibited from approving state-funded or state-sponsored travel to those states. Currently, the only listed state is North Carolina.

Please note that this applies only to travel funded by the State of California. Federal grants and grants from other organizations are not affected.

Exceptions to the new travel restriction may include “… to participate in meetings or training required by a grant or required to maintain grant funding.”

As well, clarification has not yet been issued if grants originating from federal funds and passed through the State of California, or funds originating from a California government organization such as the County of Los Angeles, or the City of Los Angeles are affected as well. TUC will work to receive clarification on these issues. Should one of these issues arise, please contact your liaison, we will try to find a solution on an individual basis.

Regards,

Georg
