CSUN’s Department of Public Safety Invites Community to Tour State-of-the-Art Facility

(NORTHRIDGE, Calif., June 12, 2007) — Cal State Northridge’s new public safety building will be open to the public for tours on Tuesday, June 19 from 3 to 6 p.m.

The new building is located on the southeast corner of Darby Avenue and Prairie Street, centrally located to campus activity. The last tour is scheduled to begin at 5:30 p.m.

The facility is 26,000 square feet, two stories high and houses the University Police Department, Parking and Transportation Services, The Matador Patrol, Live Scan Fingerprinting Services and the Records Division.

"The new facility is truly a symbol of commitment to public safety at its finest," said Chief of Police Anne Glavin, who is hosting the event along with Vice President for Administration and Finance Randy Harris.

The new building features the latest architectural planning, designed to withstand potential structural threats. The structure features flexible spaces that can be converted for emergency operations use.

Visitors will have an opportunity to tour the new facility, including a detention center that has a capacity for eight people and a forensic laboratory.

Parking is recommended in lot B3, just south of the new public safety building.

The facility replaced the old one, which was previously located in Building 14 of the University Park Apartments at the north end of the campus.
