CSUN College of Health and Human Development Holds
Information Workshop for New Program

(NORTHRIDGE, Calif., July 30, 2007) — Cal State Northridge’s Department of Health Sciences will host an information workshop for its new accelerated bachelor of science in nursing program (BSN) on Friday Aug. 3, at 1 p.m. in Sequoia Hall Room 104.

Designed to help meet the shortage of nurses in the San Fernando Valley and surrounding areas, the 15-month program is available to people who hold a bachelor’s degree in any field. The program is an alternative to existing RN-to-BSN programs.

The first cohort of 18 students began the program in June. The next two cohorts of 18 will start summer and fall of 2008. Students perform classroom work and clinical rotations.

The program works with local health care community leaders such as Northridge Medical Center, Providence St. Joseph Medical Center in Burbank and Kaiser Permanente to provide students with hands-on nursing experience.

Since the length of the new program is condensed, a full-time commitment to intensive study and training to the program is required. The information workshop is a collaboration between the College of Health and Human Development and its Student Services Center and Educational Opportunity Program.

For more information, contact the center at (818) 677-2883 or visit the program Web site at http://www.csun.edu/~nursing/.
