CSUN’s China Institute Celebrates Chinese New Year

(NORTHRIDGE, Calif., Feb. 20, 2006) — As the Chinese lunar calendar observes the Year of the Pig, Cal State Northridge’s China Institute will host its 25th annual Chinese New Year Celebration Banquet on Saturday, March 3 from 6 to 8:30 p.m. in the Grand Salon at the University Student Union.

"The China Institute plays an important role in promoting friendship, understanding and collaboration between CSUN and China. We host the banquet every year to rejoice in our achievements and commemorate the Chinese New Year," says Justine Su, director of the China Institute and CSUN professor of education.

Attendees will have the opportunity to learn about the institute’s upcoming activities, welcome new Chinese scholars and students, and listen to CSUN faculty and students share last year’s travel experiences in China.

Reservations are $50 for two seats, including institute membership, and $25 for each additional seat. Music will be provided by a local Chinese American youth jazz band.

The Grand Salon is located in the University Student Union complex, near the east entrance to the campus at Zelzah Avenue. For more information or to register, contact Justine Su at zsu@csun.edu by Monday, Feb. 26.

Cal State Northridge established the China Institute in 1982. The institute aims to promote better understanding of the Chinese culture and to strengthen friendship between the American and Chinese people. In more than 20 years it has played host to hundreds of Chinese scholars and has been influential in arranging dozens of education and cultural exchange programs between China and the United States.
