CSUN Jewish Studies Focuses on Religion of Jesus

(NORTHRIDGE, Calif., Sept. 26, 2007) — The Jewish Studies Program at California State University, Northridge invites the public to learn how the ancient vision of Israel’s God brought Jesus and his earliest followers into conflict with village and Roman authorities.

On Tuesday, Oct. 9, at 4:20 p.m., religious studies professor Rick Talbott will use research tools from the fields of cultural and economic anthropology to describe the historical Jesus who lived as a Jew among Jewish society in a lecture entitled "The Religion of Jesus and Its Impact on Families, Politics, and Economics in First-Century Judea."

"It is not easy to understand the society in which Jesus lived because the literary records of that society were composed much later," said Jody Myers, Jewish studies coordinator. "People who attend this lecture will see the type of careful scholarship involved in this type of research."

The lecture is free and open to the public, and will be located at Cal State Northridge”s Sierra Hall, Room 268. Reservations are not required.
