Financial Network Awards CSUN $20,000 to Help
Students Find the Right Jobs When They Graduate

(NORTHRIDGE, Calif., Oct. 2, 2007) — The Beer Financial Group, through its Northwestern Mutual Financial Network, has awarded Cal State Northridge’s Career Center $20,000 to increase opportunities for current students and alumni to explore the workplace and jobs that are right for them.

Specifically, the grant from Northwestern Mutual Financial Network will support additional career advisement to students through the Career Center’s Peer Education program and enhanced outreach to freshmen and transfer students.

The money will also help fund a new event at the center, the "Experience This! Career Fair," which will feature representatives from the business community, nonprofit and government agencies as well as CSUN faculty who are offering internships, fellowships and research opportunities to students. The first "Experience This!" is scheduled to take place from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Thursday, Nov. 8, on Magnolia Walk near the center of the campus at 18111 Nordhoff St. in Northridge.

Career Center Director Ann Morey called the gift from Northwestern Mutual Financial Network "wonderfully generous."

"It will help us expand and enhance the service we provide our students," she said.

Northwestern Mutual Financial Network representatives of The Beer Financial Group offer access to a variety of services, including investments, estate analysis, retirement analysis, education funding, employee benefits and insurance.

CSUN’s Career Center offers job-related services—from resume writing tips to career counseling—to students. Counselors try to match the interests, skills and majors of students with careers, and also assist them in making career choices.
