Governor Names Northridge Student to Aid Commission

(NORTHRIDGE, Calif., Nov. 3, 2006) -- Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger appointed Chad Charton, a 22-year-old CSUN senior, earlier this year to the California Student Aid Commission, whose purpose is to make education beyond high school financially obtainable for all Californians.

Charton is the youngest of the commission’s 15 members, 11 of whom were appointed by the governor and represent segments of the state’s higher education community, students, and the general public.

The California Student Aid Commission and its non-profit loan auxiliary, EDFUND, administer more than $2.4 billion in grants and loan guarantees. In addition, it provides financial aid policy analysis and leadership, in affiliation with California’s colleges, universities, financial institutions and financial aid associations.

"It is a tremendous honor and distinct privilege to serve in this role," said Charton. "I am confident that I will be able to greatly enhance accessibility to a higher education for California students."

Prior to Charton’s recent appointment, he served as president and chief executive officer of CSUN’s student government, Associated Students Inc., from 2005 to 2006. A marketing representative for FMS Financial Partners since 2002, Charton is a business administration major with concentrations in finance and real estate.

California State University, Northridge has 34,500 full- and part-time students and offers 62 bachelor’s and 50 master’s degrees as well as 28 teaching credential programs.
