CSUN’s SFV Economic Research Center Receives National Honors

(NORTHRIDGE, Calif., Nov. 15, 2006) -- Cal State Northridge’s acclaimed San Fernando Valley Economic Research Center has received national recognition for its annual San Fernando Valley Economic Report.

Specifically, the Association for University Business and Economic Research (AUBER) has selected the center’s eighth annual economic report on the state of the Valley’s economy in 2005-2006 for its annual Award of Excellence for data publications.

"We are thrilled with this national recognition of our center’s annual report," said economics professor Daniel Blake, director of the center. "We particularly appreciate the encouragement and financial support we have from the College of Business and Economics, the university, the business community and among Valley officials and interested citizens, all of which make our efforts both feasible and rewarding."

The award-winning 100-page report, which came out in fall 2005, documents economic conditions and trends in the San Fernando Valley, including such areas as employment, payroll, unemployment, bankruptcies, real estate, and construction and details on its key industries. The report also provides information on quality of life factors in the Valley such as population, births, deaths, in-migration, housing, school performance, income, poverty, public assistance, crime, air pollution, and transportation trends and traffic.

The highly anticipated annual report is traditionally issued each fall at the Valley Industry and Commerce Association’s Business Forecast Conference. The center’s ninth annual report, which was released last month, indicated that the area’s economy has grown at a robust rate. This year’s report took a close look at the Valley’s health care industry, particularly hospitals and long-term care.

AUBER is the professional association of business and economic research organizations in public and private universities throughout the United States. The association is dedicated to continually improving the quality, effectiveness and application of research in business, economics and public policy.

The San Fernando Valley Economic Research Center, housed in CSUN’s College of Business and Economics, was established in 1997 and quickly became a widely recognized expert source for information and perspective on the economic and demographics of the San Fernando Valley.
