Los Angeles Regional Write-Off Competition

On Feb. 22, high school journalists from around Los Angeles County will come to California State University, Northridge to compete in a regional writing tournament. The top competitors will be given awards and qualify for the state competition in March. Students will compete in news writing, feature writing, opinion and sports writing. Students from at least five schools will write stories on the spot in computer labs in Manzanita Hall. Professor Rick Marks will handle sports reporting and judge the entries in that category. Professor Jim Hill will be in charge of opinion and cartoons, Professor Elizabeth Blakey is overseeing features and Professor Stephanie Bluestein will handle news. Professor David Blumenkrantz and the Press Photographers Association of Greater Los Angeles will also be holding a photography competition in which students will have their portfolios reviewed and critiqued.
