Syllabus
Course Materials: Students are expected to buy and read regularly “Modern
Industrial Organization, Fourth Edition ” by Dennis Carlton and Jeffrey Perloff. The book was
published in 2005 by Pearson-Addison Wesley. The publisher's web-site makes some resources available that students may find useful. These may be viewed by clicking here.
Office Hours: Office hours are held in BB 4234 Monday, and Thursday from
6-6:50 pm. You may call (677-4517) or send an email to ask questions. Professor

Grading: The course will be graded based on class participation, homework assignments, and two exams. Each assignment and exam will be assigned a letter grade and combined to calculate
the final grade according to the formula given in the table below.
- Class Presentations & Participation: 10% of the grade
- Group Homework assignments: 10% of the grade.
- Midterm: The midterm will be 20% of the
course grade.
- Final: The final exam will be 60% of the
course grade.
Policy on Academic Dishonesty : University rules prohibit
cheating, fabrication, facilitating the academic dishonesty of another student,
and plagiarism. If you engage in any of these activities in this class, you
will fail this class. A letter will be sent to the appropriate campus officials
requesting disciplinary action.
“Cheating or plagiarism in connection with an academic program at
a campus is listed in Section 41301, Title V, California Code of Regulations,
as an offense for which a student may be expelled, suspended or given a less
severe disciplinary sanction.” (2009-2010 CSUN Catalog,
page 530).
In this class, students who submit papers that include even one sentence or
phrase taken from the work of others will receive an F in this class (not just
in the assignment, but the class).
