Week 2 January 30
Objective: Develop a vision to become a professional educator through deeper understanding of professional learning goals, roles and responsibilities.
Warm Up: Think-Pair-Share “Telling Your Story of Becoming a Teacher---Your Vision of the Teacher You Want to Be”
Share the Domain Goals that you identified. What are the supports and constraints to your development as an effective teacher? [are goals from within or in spite of context?]
Session Topics/Activities: Jigsaw activity Plus Minus Interesting on Introduction to Leading Lesson Study
Grade level/subject area teams form to identify individual lessons that have provided some challenge in promoting student learning.
Assignments: Read: Henderson, Ch. 5 “Autobiographical Inquiry” (I will email this to you as well as link it here) Bring an "artifact" that represents your cultural/family history. Begin individual lesson ideas to share with team and analyze for their learning-teaching connections.
Journal: What are the significant ideas or tools raised in the session tonight that you may transfer into your own classroom?

Week 3 February 6
Objective: Gain skill and perspective in planning instruction and designing learning experiences that reflect, draw on and value students’ backgrounds, interests life experiences, prior knowledge, and developmental learning needs.

Week 5 February 20 Session 5 Powerpoint Presentation Objective: Develop instructional activities and materials to make subject matter accessible to all students. Warm Up: T-Chart on Attentive Listening (an activity that helps to identify and strengthen attributes of good listening)
Session Topics/Activities: Share your reflection on your levels of performance and self efficacy goals—How does self assessment promote inquiry into practice and performance?
Discuss what the reactions you have had to the video clips from the TIMMS Study
Meet with your Research Group to discuss ideas gleaned from the text reading in Leading Lesson Study
Assignments: Read: Stigler & Hiebert: The Teaching Gap, Ch. 5-6
Copy and complete Lesson Study Planning Sheets relevant for your group's goals. Plan to consult with Dr. Belgrad using these forms.
Look ahead in your curriculum to select the unit and possible lesson that will meet the identified goals of your lesson research study. Journal: Reflect on what you are learning about the collaborative process embedded in lesson study.

Week 6 February 27 Session 6 Powerpoint Presentation Objective 1: Design coherent instruction and learning activities collaboratively that are highly relevant to students and pedagogical goals. Objective 2: Improve professional practice by working with colleagues to analyze and modify instructional plans and teaching in order to enhance student understanding of subject matter.
Session Topics/Activities: In Lesson Design Research Groups: Work together on your group's lesson study plan using the templates provided in Leading Lesson Study
Discussion of Upcoming Reading Pedagogical Content Knowledge Analyzing the knowledge base of the effective teacher: - Pedagogical knowledge -Pedagogical content knowledge -Pedagogical context knowledge

Lesson Study: Individual work on the lesson as needed by your LDRG
Journal: 1. Reflect on how you are building your Pedagogical Content Knowledge within your classroom learning environment. 2. Reflect on how the lesson design process is contributing to the growth of your Pedagogical Content Knowledge associated with teaching the discipline in general and specifically with this lesson. |
Week 7 March 5
Objective: Improve professional practice by working with colleagues to analyze and modify instructional plans and teaching in order to enhance student understanding of subject matter.
Session Topics/Activities: Lesson Study teams meet to continue planning the process and the lessons; (tonight we need to develop timetables for accomplishing the remainder of the process).
Whole group: Lesson Study teams share their lesson themes and research questions with class. Objective: Seek ideas and recommendations from the class; feedback with ideas/adaptations based on PCK

Read: PCK and Science Education pp. 111-127 Review: EXAMPLES OF MULTICULTURAL COMPETENCIES IN THREE DOMAINS
Continue: Team work on Lesson Design Complete: Write-up of Team Lesson Event (or Video) of Lesson taught in your class; include the feedback from Lesson Study Team if you have received it.
Journal: Consider what can be gained from teacher collaboration in lesson design study in schools;

Week 8 March 12
Objective: Work with colleagues to further analyze instructional plans and incorporate relevant modifications, assessment and evaluation strategies.
Session Topics/Activities:
Report-out on Team Lesson Revisions—simulating the teaching event with peers. Teams give feedback for lesson development to promote student achievement.
Individual lessons revision presentations
Assignments: Read: TTG, Ch. 7-8.
Bring Completed Pre-Lesson Study Summary
Consult Website to review lessons in your discipline or similar grade-level lessons.
Journal: Reflect on the overall outcome of the lesson design process with your team

Week 12 April 16

Sharing of the progress report based on perspectives, assumptions strategies and tools you are planning to incorporate in order to promote student learning
End-of-class debriefing on team progress on-lessons using feedback following presentations.
