*The online classes are fast-paced with little face to face interaction between students and professor. Students intending on taking the online class should be prepared to work on most of the assignments independently and thus should be computer savvy and have a good foundation of computer skills. If you are unsure about your computer skill, feel free to contact Dr. Chang and he can help assess your level or you can look at the assignments that you will be required to complete.

Students, for the first class, we will meet online using Eliminate (simply log into your WebCT and click on the Elluminate link). Eliminate is a program that will allow the users to chat both text and audio, screen sharing, etc., so please make every attempt to attend the first online class meeting which will be held the first night of class starting promptly at 7:00. In addition, please look at the assignments and note when the final exam will be given. You will be required to attend the date of the final exam in education 2117. This class has online quizzes and thus you will be required to start the online quizzes between 7:00-7:10. Quizzes will last 5 minutes and they can be accessed using WebCT. There will be optional Elluminate sessions throughout the semester (check assignment for dates) which will begin at 7:20.

Prior to class starting, you should go over introductory items such as syllabus, assignments, tests and etc. The last class meeting will be reserved for the final exam. Besides the last class, you not required to attend class. Dr. Chang will have optional online sessions using Eliminate throughout the semester and he will give the dates and times of those sessions.

Withdraws and incomplete's shall not be permitted during the final twenty percent of instruction (after week 12) except in cases, such as accident or serious illness, where the cause of withdrawal is due to circumstances clearly beyond the student's control (Office of the CSU Chancellor, Executive Order #792, p. 4).

There will be a few things you will want to complete...

1. Visit the Web site at www.csun.edu/taechang
From there, you will want to view the syllabus, assignments, portfolio and other class samples.

2. Each week, it is advisable that students complete the assignments prior to when Dr. Chang will give the instructions. If you do not understand the instructions, you will want to attend class and ask questions. If you complete an assignment after the lecture, you will not have the opportunity to backtrack and see the lecture besides online.

3. Check your email in WebCt on a weekly basis. Dr. Chang will write you an email weekly updates pertinent for the class. Keep in mind that all emails sent and received should be in WebCT only.

Hint:

4. Make sure your student id and password is correct. To check, first go to https://www.csun.edu/account/ and see if you can log in. Once you log in, make sure your password abides by the following...

*A valid password must contain:
* Standard U.S. keyboard characters only (such as the letters A through Z, the numbers 0 through 9, or the special characters on the top row of the keyboard)
* A minimum of 6 characters
* A maximum of 8 characters
* At least 1 number
* At least 1 of these special characters: ! $ & * < >

If you password does not meet the above, go and change your password.

5. You will eventually have all of your assignments uploaded to the Web. You can use CSUN as your host or a different company as long as it is uploaded by the appropriate deadlines. If you would like to use CSUN, follow the directions (hint, do not try connecting VPN or off campus unless you are extremely computer confident, because it has caused students in the past a lot of hassle)...
