CSUN Panel to Discuss the Legacy of Post-Modernism

(NORTHRIDGE, Calif., Jan. 28, 2005) -- When Jacques Derrida died in October of 2004, he was one of the most influential and controversial philosophers in the world.

The movement he founded, deconstruction, has been both praised and condemned by scholars, but its influence has been felt in a variety of fields, most notably in literature.

A panel of Cal State Northridge faculty members will discuss Derrida's legacy and how deconstruction fits into the larger Western philosophical heritage on Monday, Feb. 14, from 4 to 6 p.m. in the Presentation Room of the Oviatt Library, located in the center of the campus at 18111 Nordhoff St. in Northridge.

Participating in the discussion, "Derrida and the Legacy of Post-Modernism," will be religious studies professor Mutombo Nkulu-N'Sengha, English professor Jack Solomon, philosophy professor York Gunther and philosophy professor Birgit Tregenza. Philosophy professor James Kellenberger will act as moderator.

Admission to the event is free. For more information, call CSUN's Center for Ethics and Values at (818) 677-4847.
