Center for Public Humanities

Mission

With more than fifty affiliated humanities faculty, the CSUN Center for Public Humanities serves as a hub for the engaged public work of our humanities faculty, students, and staff and amplifies this work to better serve our students and the broader Los Angeles community. The central mission of the CPH is to encourage community based research and project-based, experiential learning opportunities and to carry out cross-departmental public projects and events, all of which involve sustained partnerships with community colleges, nonprofits, and libraries across LA.

These community and project-based learning activities 1) improve outcomes for faculty and students; 2) actively innovate and decolonize the humanities curriculum; and 3) help faculty and students serve the communities they call home, showing the enduring relevance of the humanities in our lives.
