CSUN ATHLETICS

PROVIDE POSITIVE IMPACT

CSUN’s athletic programs produce a tremendous cultural impact beyond gate and merchandise revenues. Student-athletes are often the outward face of the University, serving as ambassadors at sporting events across the region. Participating in CSUN athletics programs also helps student-athletes develop character and leadership skills, leading to success both on and off the field. Additionally, CSUN houses several high-quality athletic facilities, allowing it to host major collegiate tournaments. In recent years, the University has hosted five Big West Track Championships and two NCAA Track Regionals. The University also recently hosted championship tournaments in men’s and women’s golf, as well as water polo.

The biggest impact generated by CSUN’s athletic programs, however, is through scholarships given to student-athletes. The University issued the equivalent of 127 scholarships during the 2013/2014 academic year, amounting to more than $2.5 million in financial aid. This aid provides many students with the full or partial funding they need to obtain a college degree, a prospect that may not have been realistic if not for CSUN’s involvement.
