HOW TO DO
IT
- THE NEW 2004 SAT
TUTOR!
PSAT and SAT
DESCRIPTION THE PSAT AND SAT TEST MAY BE THE MOST IMPORTANT
TESTS OF YOUR WHOLE LIFE. THEY CAN AFFECT YOUR
FUTURE.
HOW TO DO IT
FIRST, get a copy of the publication called
Taking the SAT from your high school
guidance department. Study it. You will find
valuable information about taking the test and
test taking hints.
You will generally find the first 15
questions of each math test fairly simple.
The killer questions are usually the last
few in a batch. Do the easy questions first.
If you don't get a question, circle it, and
come back to it later.
QUESS If you think you know the
answer but are not sure it pays to quess.
You lose one-fourth of a correct answer for
every wrong answer throughout most of the
test.
USE A TIMER The 30 minute math SAT
test has 25 questions. Take a watch to the
test and plan your 30-minute test. When
preparing for the test time yourself so that
you get used to working effectively not allowing
interruptions or mind wondering.
FINALLY, YOU MUST HAVE A DEFINITE PLAN
FOR SUCCESS.
PLAN FOR SUCCESS
You must be willing to allocate a fixed amount
of time on a certain day, or days, each week at a
certain time. You must get into a routine.
You must start your plan at least 6 months before
the test. No matter how good you are at math,
you can improve and raise you PSAT and SAT scores.
But ANY SUCCESS TAKES WORK, COMMITMENT and
INITIATIVE. You must follow through with your
plan.
DO IT, YOU WILL BE THANKFUL 5 YEARS FROM
NOW. This may be the most important thing you do
this year.
FIRST Click on the SKILL EVALUATION and
do the following:
1. SKILLS EVALUATION -STEP 1
2. SKILLS EVALUATION -STEP 2
3. SKILLS EVALUATION -STEP 3
4. SKILLS EVALUATION -STEP 4
Print out the results which will show you which
assignments you should do to improve your math skills.
You can do these Skill Evaluations at different times
It is too much to do at one time.
SECOND Look at the print outs and count the
number of assignments you are expected to do.
Estimate that each assignment should take about 15
minutes. You should limit your study time to 30
minutes at a time on the computer, so divide the
number of assignments for you by 2. This represents
the number of 30 minute sessions on the computer to
complete your preparation for the test.
FINALLY Spread this amount of time over
18 weeks, to determine how much time per week you
need to commit to your goal.
Decide upon a specific time each week when you
will do these assignments. MARK THESE TIMES ON
YOUR DESK CALENDER.
When you do the assignments, make a list of
any problems that you miss and examine the HELP
option to see how to do the problem correctly.
When you have completed all the assignments,
repeat the ones that you missed.
