When student voice and goal-setting becomes integrated into the academic outcomes in the classroom, success can be achieved for both instructors and students. This course will provide an introduction to authentic evaluation processes that invite student self assessment and will provide examples and tools for assuring successful student learning. The use of a portfolio or eportfolio as an authentic container of student achievement will be highlighted and discussed.

Teachers often agonize over how to assess student work fairly and consistently.  This book provides practical performance assessments while also addressing the effectiveness of teacher-made tests and standardized test. Burke presents a repertoire of authentic assessment tools such as performance tasks, criteria checklists, multiple intelligences experiences, rubrics, logs, journals interviews, portfolios and metacognitive processing techniques to evaluate subjective projects and performances.
