Liu Bolin

Liu Bolin was born in 1973 in Shangdong province, China, where he trained in sculpture and received a bachelor's degree from the Art Department of Shandong Arts Institute in 1995. In 2001, Liu received an MFA from the Sculpture Department of Central Academy of Fine Arts. He currently lives and works as a freelance artist in Beijing, maintaining a studio in the famous 798 Art District. Liu Bolin became well known when he began the performance and photographic series Hiding in the City in 2005, but he also works with other mediums such as sculpture and painting. The main theme of his art deals with the complex relationship and tension between individuals and the social, political and cultural environments that condition their experience of existence. Liu's art has been exhibited worldwide.
