-When was the first time that you remember realizing that you are a creative person?
maybe like.. 2 months after i got my first job in the field. everytime i walked in the door there was a little sign outside the window that said "dont feed the creatives" so after a while it set into my brain that creative people DID work on the other side of that window.

-When did you know that this was what you wanted to do with your life? How did you get started?
well, im still not sure if THIS is what i want to do in life, but one thing that has helped is having the mentality to always give the best impression in whatever you do and do your best, otherwise try something else. It doesnt neccessarly mean "quit", because i struggled being creative for a long time, even after being in the field, but its one of those things that you gotta keep at it and doing your best. Excercising that great part of the brain (the creative side)

-What traits, if any, do you think that creative people have as compared to people who are not creative?
i dont believe that there are specific traits. I meet creative people in corporate offices, suit and tie, then theres those others that you wouldnt expect being creative. Theres no definitive answer to that, but ive found that the better of the creatives are the ones that throw out all their ideas and exhaust their creative proccess to make room for more ideas.

-Do believe that your training has influenced what you create?
I believe that my "training" has helped me better use my tools so that my creative flow doesnt get lost in translation between geting it from brain to a tangible form. what influences me to create are emotions, and i usually find that in music. If i want to achieve a ceartain style i just put on my headphones and select a type of music, then just put on canvas what i want to portray. Music plays a big role in my work and so i listen to many types but my favorite is House music because its fast and gives me energy and sets the pace.

-Have you ever felt that your personal expectations have limited your creativity? If so, how have you dealt with this?
Not really. If theres one thing that does limit me, it would have to be the clients art direction, so i just have to work a different way to try to meet their expectations. Many times your artwork will get butchered because of this issue but its something you gotta deal with in the corporate business.

-Have other people supported or inspired you? Please explain.
Yeah. you find people like that all the time, and if you got a great attitude, you find even more. I believe that theres always someone out there that will support you and inspire you, otherwise there wouldnt be a need for you to do better, but the main thing comes to what you do from the inspiration and support that you recieve. Even if people talk bad about your work, and they will; THAT is a big support right there, because its what will help you make a better design or come up with a better idea.

-How have you dealt with any criticism you have gotten because of your creative endeavors?
Yup, i use to get them all the time in class. Teachers would tell me that things were too complicated or that it needed more work, or that it wansnt the way to do things. It all helped me refine my ideas and see things in different directions to better please a wider range of minds.

-Do you ever feel that you have to censor your creativity because you don\'t want to offend anyone?
Not really censor, its more like "filter". If i want to express a message, it will be expressed but in a form that isnt derogatory or offensive.

-Do you do anything special to get your \"creative juices\" flowing? Please explain.
When i really cant think. i walk around and take a break. then come back to my seat and put my head down, close my eyes, rethink everything as i listen to music, then come up with something and execute. If that doesnt work. i just work on something else, then when i come back to where i was stuck i will have a clearer mindset.

Food and Music always help me.

-Does your work convey a specific emotion or message?
My personal work does, and it always differs from project to project. My "work" work conveys ideas to better tie in the product experience to the user with the aid of effects and emotions.

-If you could be any object, what would you be? Why?
Probably a pillar, because it is used to set structure and to help hold things together. And no matter what comes its way, it was designed to withold and stay strong. I think thats a good analogy to keep thru the tough times.

-What are your words of wisdom for someone starting out in your field?
Fail as much as you can right now, cuz you wont have that luxury once you are in the filed. :)

Creative Genius

John Digweed

-When was the first time that you remember realizing that you are a creative person?

I don’t think that people actually know when they first realize that they are creative. I know that I don’t remember when I thought I was creative. I just see it that I’m doing something that I love, which is music.

-When did you know that this was what you wanted to do with your life? How did you get started?

No, but no one really knows what they want to do until right at the last minute

-What traits, if any, do you think that creative people have as compared to people who are not creative?

I believe that everyone is creative in one way or another. Some people can be creative in the arts, while others are creative in solving problems. So there is no such thing as no one having creativity.

-Do believe that your training has influenced what you create?

In a sense yes, but it’s mostly just experimenting and choosing what sounds best.

-Have you ever felt that your personal expectations have limited your creativity? If so, how have you dealt with this?

No, I try not to have any personal expectations because they tend to limit your creativity and your abilities.

-Have other people supported or inspired you? Please explain.

I would say my family and friends. They have always supported me.

-How have you dealt with any criticism you have gotten because of your creative endeavors?

I blow off the negative criticism and accept the positive ones. The positive ones I take as constructive criticism.

-Do you ever feel that you have to censor your creativity because you don't want to offend anyone?

No, people are always going to be offended and there nothing you can do. You can’t please everyone.

-Do you do anything special to get your "creative juices" flowing? Please explain.

I just listen to music and get lost while I’m working on my projects.

-Does your work convey a specific emotion or message?

At times, usually my music reflects what I’m feeling at that moment of time. But, it all depends on the listener to create their emotion through my music.

-If you could be any object, what would you be? Why?

It would be nothing because nothing is perfect, lol. Actually I don’t know. I guess one of the four elements.

-What are your words of wisdom for someone starting out in your field?

Just have the passion in you in whatever you’re doing. Without it, then it becomes hard to continue on and you will lose your creativity for that flied .
