Two Dimensional Ideal MHD Equations

In this example we use a two-dimensional second order semi-discrete central scheme to evolve the solution of Ideal MHD equations

where

stands for the total pressure, and the the pressure, p, is related to the conserved quantities through the equation of state

with . The solution is evolved over the computational domain , from to . The initial conditions are those of the Orszag-Tang Vortex System

with periodic boundary conditions, , using a 288 x 288 mesh and cfl number 0.75.

The images below display, from top to bottom and left to right, the initial contours of density and pressure (at t = 0.05), and the velocity and magnetic fields. Click on the individual images to see an animation from to .
