Math 250 – Calculus III

Gaining competence in mathematical reasoning needed in more advance college courses and/or various professional decisions.
Calculus on vector valued and multivariable functions. The topics include: partial derivatives, directional derivatives, the gradient vectors, optimization problems and Lagrange multipliers, multiple integrals, vector fields, and line integrals.
Calculus, 3rd Edition, by Briggs, Cochran, Gillett, Scultz Pearson, 2019.
We will cover sections 13.5-13.6, 15.1-15.8, 16.1-16.5, 16.7, 17.1-17.8.
There will be online homeworks.
Three tests to be taken during class time, on campus. No make-ups without doctor’s excuse. Final Exam’s score will be used for one missing test.
A cumulative (common) final exam (Monday, May 11, 2026, 10:15 – 12:15), on campus. Not taking the final exam will result in a semester letter grade WU, regardless of the scores from homeworks and tests.
Note: No calculators, or electronic devices, or cheat-sheets will be allowed during the tests and the final exam. Also, during the tests and the final exam, all cellphones must be turned off.
10% – homeworks
60% – three tests
30% – cumulative final exam
In some cases, I may use the ± system when assigning the final grade, with the exception
of C-.
This is covered in Appendix C of the CSUN catalog. Academic dishonesty will always be reported to the Office of Student Affairs. According to CSUN policy, a grade that is sanctioned due to academic dishonesty cannot be replaced by subsequent course grades.
