THE KINGS OF ATHENS
I. PRE-ERECHTHID KINGS:
Names of two kings are known from the period before the "historical" kings (and before the Great Flood), OGYGOS and AKTAIOS. The Atthidographer Hellanikos [Hellanikos of Lesbos FGrH #323 F10] apparently first brought them into the literature, though Philochoros [FGrH #328 F92] criticized his remarks by denying the existence of AKTAIOS.
