Course Description and Format

English 097 is designed to help you develop reading skills and strategies so that you will be prepared to succeed in English 098. This course offers an intensive study of college level reading and writing skills, focusing on gathering and understanding information, evaluating how writers seek to persuade readers. This course will:

This course focuses on the close relationship of the reading/writing process: pre-writing, and pre-reading, drafting, revising. Much of class time will be spent discussing, writing, and working in small groups, both offline and online. Students are encouraged to use the resources of the Learning Resource Center.

Conferencing and Office Hours: One office conference (TBA) is required, and all students are strongly urged to come by my office as confusion, problems, questions arise. The sharing of positive writing experience is also permitted. My office (JR253) is located in the Jerome Richfield building on the second floor, right next to the food court. BYOF&D. Hours are T/Th 11:00 - 12:30 or by appt.
