Italy: Forest Oil successful at exploration well in Abruzzo region
|
Forest Oil has tested an exploration well in eastern Italy flowing 6.9 MMcf/d. Monte Pallano 1 was tested in the lowest of several pay zones encountered. It was drilled to a total depth of 1,540m in the 36 sq km Monte Pallano Block in the Chieti province of the Abruzzo region. The license includes the Bomba gas/condensate field that was discovered by Agip in 1996. However, that gas/condensate reservoir in an Upper Cretaceous limestone of the Apulian Platform subthrust has not been developed because it lies under Bomba Lake and there is a landslide risk in the mountainous area. Forest was awarded the block in February 2004, and granted a suspension of the license in 2006. That suspension was lifted in early 2007, with the expiration date postponed to 2 May 2010. Forest says it plans to drill a second well in the third quarter of 2007, and begin production to sales in 2008. The company operates with a 90% interest. Intergie Sri holds the remaining 10%.
