President Harrison Sets Tone for New Academic Year

In what’s become the university’s own State of the Union, CSUN President Dianne F. Harrison this week greeted hundreds of new faculty members and staff — and welcomed back thousands of those returning to campus — at her annual fall welcome address, which took place Aug. 20 at CSUN’s Valley Performing Arts Center.

 
 
 
 
 
 
Yi Li

New Provost Yi Li: An Academic Life in Living Color

Born in Shanghai and raised during China’s Cultural Revolution, Yi Li eventually came upon mathematics as a fallback after he was found to be color blind. Undeterred, he dedicated himself to his studies and eventually earned his doctorate and became an advocate for diversity in STEM fields. This semester he begins his next chapter as the new provost at CSUN.

Combining neuroscience research, best teaching practices and cutting-edge research from across disciplines, Cynthia Desrochers’ group has developed a shared language for talking about how learning happens. The Five Gears for Activating Learning are: motivating learning, organizing knowledge, connecting prior knowledge, practicing with feedback and developing mastery.

Commit To Be Fit Fall 2015

Join colleagues Mondays through Thursdays for another semester of exercise with Commit To Be Fit, a free 60 minutes of fitness and fun.

HR Launches New Employee Welcome Page

Newly hired faculty, staff and management, as well as student employees can now access all pre-employment paperwork online at the Office of Human Resources’ new Welcome page. Each category of employee is provided information about the sign-in process, what they’ll need to bring and which forms are required or optional.
