Noted Photographer Mariette Pathy Allen
to Speak at CSUN about her Book on Transgenders
(NORTHRIDGE, Calif., Feb. 4, 2005) -- Noted photographer and author Mariette Pathy Allen will talk about her newest publication, "The Gender Frontier," on Tuesday, Feb. 15, at Cal State Northridge.
The free event is open to the public and will begin at 6:30 p.m. in CSUN's University Club, located on the southeast end of the campus near the intersection of Nordhoff Street and Zelzah Avenue.
Allen's book features photographic essays and narratives about the lives of transgenders. Her pictures are photojournalistic, not studio work, portraying the subjects at work and play, at home and in public.
Allen has spent more than 25 years working with and documenting the lives of members of the transgender community; the book grew out of that experience.
Her presentation is sponsored by CSUN's Department of Philosophy, The Center for Sex Research and the Oviatt Library.
