(NORTHRIDGE, Calif., Feb. 18, 2005) -- Cal State Northridge invites the public to celebrate the "year of the rooster" during the Chinese Spring Festival on Saturday, March 5.

A banquet celebrating the Chinese New Year will be held from 6 to 8:30 p.m. in the University's Grand Salon on the east side of campus in the University Student Union at 18111 Nordhoff Street in Northridge.

"The mission of the banquet and the China Institute is to promote friendship, understanding, exchange, and collaboration between CSUN and China," said Justine Su, director of Northridge's China Institute.

The banquet will include a buffet dinner, live performances of classical Chinese music and an excerpt from the Peking Opera's, "Farewell My Concubine."

For more information about the banquet or to register contact Justine Su at zsu@csun.edu by Feb. 25. Tickets start at $50. Proceeds will fund the organization's annual events, news letter, and maintenance of its Web site.

Parking permits can be obtained at the entrance of Lot G4, located off Prarie Street and Zelzah Avenue. Parking costs $4.
