California State University, Northridge Reaccredited for 10 Years

March 16, 2012

To the Campus Community:

We recently received the letter from the Western Association of Schools and Colleges that concludes the reaccreditation process for California State University, Northridge. The March 8, 2012 letter reaffirms the institution's accreditation for 10 years and confirms what we already know--that Cal State Northridge is a model learning organization fully focused on student success and learning.

The letter of reaccreditation concludes a rigorous process that began in early 2007, included two detailed self studies conducted by university faculty, staff, students and administrators; major site visits by external reviewers in 2010 and 2011; and an exit meeting with WASC by Vice Provost Cynthia Rawitch and me earlier this year.

The findings are a testament to our campus culture and leadership and reflect former President Jolene Koester's legacy. WASC's evaluation and praise show that we are well positioned to build on our success as we prepare for the arrival of a new president.

Everyone should take great pride in our earning a full 10-year reaccreditation, which reflects the strength and commitment of the entire campus community, particularly faculty and staff, to our students.

Literally hundreds of members of the CSUN community contributed to our successful reaccreditation. I would like to give special recognition to the WASC Accreditation Co-Chairs, Liberal Studies Director and Mathematics Professor Michael Neubauer and College of Humanities Dean Elizabeth Say, as well as to the members of the Steering Committee, the Proposal Development Committee, and various task groups.
