Hazardous waste pickup is handled by the department safety coordinator and can be arranged by completing a waste pickup form.

Chemical hygiene plan (CHP) safety training is handled by the Chemistry and Biochemistry Department. All students performing research in the department are required to completed CHP training before commencing research activities in this laboratory. Annual refresher training is required. Use this link to check the date of the next CHP training session or to learn about the annual refresher training.

Laboratory Safety

In addition to CHP training, each research student must also undergo laboratory specific training. The latest version of the laboratory safety manual can be downloaded here. Once this training is performed, complete the certification form on the last page and return to Simon Garrett within 7 days.

X-ray Safety

Any researcher using the XPS instrument in the Garrett Research Group is required to undergo specific X-ray training. This involves studying training materials and passing a quiz. Download and study the self-study training materials then print out and take the x-ray safety quiz. Give the test to Simon Garrett within 7 days of completion. You must score at least 80% on the test to be considered acceptably trained.
