Dr. Ramon GarciaDr. RAMON GARCIA

Dr. Ramón García has a Master’s and Ph.D. in Literature from the University of California, San Diego.

Dr. Garcia’s research focuses on visual culture and literary studies.  His scholarly work has appeared in Critica; Wide Angle; Chasqui:  Review of Latin American Literature and Aztlán:  A Journal of Chicano Studies.  He has also published poetry and fiction in a variety of journals and anthologies, including the Best American Poetry 1996; Story; Ambit (UK); The Floating Borderlands:  Twenty-Five Years of U.S.-Hispanic Literature; Margie:  The American Journal of Poetry; Crab Orchard Review; Poetry Salzburg Review (Austria); Borderland:  The Texas Poetry Review; Los Angeles Review and Mandorla:  New Writing from the Americas.

He has two forthcoming books of poetry:  Other Countries (What Books Press, Fall 2010) and The Chronicles (Red Hen Press). 

He has been awarded a National Endowment for the Arts residency fellowship from the MacDowell Colony and residency fellowships from the Virginia Center for the Creative Arts and the Ragdale Foundation. He has also been a recipient of a research grant from the National Endowment for the Humanities

He is a member of PEN/USAWest, the National Association of Chicana and Chicano Studies, the Association of Literary Scholars and Critics and is a founding member of the Glass Table Collective, a nationally based collective of independent working artist.
