Project IV
Preparing Your Resume
This assignment consists of constructing a resume. Understand that a resume is a summary
of your qualifications and not a narrative. Be inclusive, but brief; no more than two pages. Your draft should
consist of the following parts:
Part I - Personal Identification:
Name, address (avoid using home address when possible), including zip code and phone number.
Part II - Personal Objectives:
State the career path, the occupation, and the specific title of the position you are looking for. Then state the qualifications you possess that are demanded by that position. Be sure you relate your objectives to those of the type of organization you are trying to approach.
Part III - Experience and/or Employment Record:
Be specific. Most recent backward. Be selective, but include both paid and unpaid jobs. Emphasize experience that corresponds to the qualifications of the job.
Part IV - Education:
At your level, specify all diplomas, including high school. Be sure to include your intended CSUN degree and any special option in the major. Certificates and special course completion should be included, particularly those having to do with the qualifications of the sought after job.
Part V - Specialized Skills and Qualifications:
Include items such as foreign languages, computer skills, communications, leadership (the issues raised in your last project).
Part VI - Professional Affliation:
Any membership in professional, political, non-profit or campus organizations including the offices you may have held in each.
Part VII - Special Information:
Willingness to travel, relevant special equipment owned (e.g. car or computer). Describe interests, relevant hobbies or sports activities. Include anything that portrays your overall personality, but do not include anything that would be considered an ascribed characteristic (age, sex, race, etc).
Part VIII - References:
Provide a statement that "references are available upon request". This allows you to taylor your references to the particular occupation.
Please try to submit a draft prior to March 28th, via your hypernews page, so that I can give you feedback in time
to redraft, if necessary.
