Sociology 497 - Grading Criteria

This course consists of several forms of class participation including traditional testing, laboratory assignments, and virtual meetings. The criteria for your class grade will be four tests, three non-cumulative quizzes and a cumulative final. The grade for the lab will consist of written assignments each week. Plus and minus grading will be in effect.

TESTS

There will be three quizzes, each consisting of fifty (50) points and a final worth one hundred (100) points. No make ups will be given. However, your lowest quiz grade will be dropped. Therefore, the total number of points is 200 for the class. The tests will contain both objective questions, definitions, and short answers. The focus of each test will be the class lectures and readings. The highest student total test score will be averaged with the maximum to determine the 100th percentile The following breakdown should give an approximate range of expectations for your grade in each:

171 to 190 = A
151 to 170 = B
121 to 150 = C
101 to 120 = D
100 or less = Fail

LABORATORY ASSIGNMENTS

There will be a written assignment each week corresponding to the issues raised by the lectures: Each assignment will be weighted equally except for the last written report, which constitutes our class project and will be worth three lab assignments. Each assignment will be worth three points for a total of 30 points. The following is an approximate range of expectations for lab grades:

26 - 30 = A
21 - 25 = B
16 - 20 = C
11 - 15 = D
< 11 = Fail
