Mackelprang Lab

Our lab is broadly interested in understanding microbial populations by integrating next-generation tools such as high-throughput DNA sequencing with traditional microbiology approaches.

Our overarching goals are two-fold. First, we seek to understand the molecular, genetic, and biochemical mechanisms that enable survival at life’s environmental limits. Second, we seek to understand the impact of climate change on microbial life and in turn how microbial communitites shape our environment. We are persuing these goals using our favorite microbial habitat--permafrost.
