  WebWork

WeBWorK is an Internet-based homework delivery system which was developed at the University of Rochester and is now used in numerous Colleges and Universities around the country. WeBWorK is grader, not a tutor. It will give you immediate feedback on your mastery of each topic. Often it will also give you hints. Research has shown that the use of WeBWorK improves student success by an average of one half a grade in College Algebra. WeBWorK requires that you have access to the Internet. To log in into your WeBWorK account for this class, follow these steps.

  1. Open your favorite Web browser (IE, Safari, ...) and go to https://webwork.csun.edu/. Then click on your instructor's name. This should take you to the login page.
  2. Log in. Your username is the first part of your csun email address (for example if your email address is john.doe.43@my.csun.edu, then your username is john.doe.43). Your password is your student ID number with no starting zeros
  3. Click the Begin Problem Sets button.
  4. Highlight Set0 in the menu box by clicking on it.
  5. Click the Do Problem Set button
  6. Read the text to the right of the screen, then highlight Problem 1 on the left column by clicking on it.
  7. Click the Get Problem button.
  8. Complete Problem 1 by filling in the 5 boxes. Once you are satisfied with your answers click Submit Answers.

The program will now grade the problem and show any errors.

  1. If you got any part of the problem wrong you may change it until it is correct. You can attempt a problem as many times as you like before the due date. If you got the problem correct you may click Next at the top and proceed to Problem 2.
  2. Continue this way until you have completed all the problems. When you have completed all the problems, click on Problem List at the top; you will see a summary of your scores on the Homework Set.

In general you should begin each Homework Set by clicking on Get Hard Copy on the second screen after the login page (Step 3 above), and printing out the problems. You can work them out with pencil and paper and return to the computer when you are ready to enter your answers.
If you are having trouble figuring out your errors, you should consult the book, or ask a fellow student, or your professor for help. Don't spend a lot of time guessing -- it's not very efficient or effective. You can use the Feedback button on each problem page to send e-mail to your instructor.
Problems in WeBWorK follow the textbook but are algorithmically generated. This means that each student will have a unique set of problems. Each assignment will have a timed due date; after the due date, any work that you do will not count for a grade.
Homework Set 0 is to familiarize you with WeBWorK and it does not count for credit. However, you are strongly encouraged to work it out to become familiar with inputing answers in WeBWorK.
