CSUN's Waste Stats: For the past three years, approximately 55% of CSUN's waste material has be recycled, composted, reused, or otherwise diverted from the landfill. CSUN sends an average of 4.25 pounds of waste to the landfill every 60 seconds. Between 15% and 25% of CSUN's waste is paper towels, and campus users go through over 12 miles of paper towel roll each day. One sheet is enough to dry your hands, make sure to only take what you need. CSUN landfills approximately 450,000 coffee cups each year. Around 2.5% of customers bring their own cup, preventing waste from over 11,000 cups. Waste hauling costs CSUN approximately $300,000 each year.
