I am pleased to announce the appointment of Dr. Dianne Philibosian as the Interim Director of the Institute for Community Health and Wellbeing.

The Institute is a collaborative of campus and community members committed to enhancing the health and wellbeing of individuals, families, organizations and communities within Cal State Northridge’s service region. The primary mission of the Institute is to foster healthful living through community and campus partnerships. These partnerships combine specialized knowledge, wisdom and experience to address major health, social and economic challenges within the region. Through the Institute, we envision a future with an enhanced and enriched quality of life for those in the community and on campus.

Dr. Dianne Philibosian has been an administrator and faculty member at California State University, Northridge for over 35 years. She was associate dean of the College of Health and Human Development (formerly School of Communication, Health and Human Services) from 1987-1998, Coordinator of the Interdisciplinary Program in Child Development from 1977-1979. She has a broad interdisciplinary focus having served as a faculty member in the Departments of Elementary Education, Communication Studies, Child Development, and currently in Recreation and Tourism Management.  She has served on numerous university committees including the Educational Policies Committee and been awarded a variety of grants and contracts including a three year grant from the U.S. Department of Education Fund for the Improvement of Postsecondary Education. 

She has an extensive background in early care and education, not-for-profit organizations and in developing public/private partnerships. She serves on the boards of the University of the Pacific (Chair of the Board from 2004-2008), the Pasadena Playhouse, and Caltech Children’s Center.  Previously she has served on the boards of Mission Community Hospital and the Child Care Information Service.

In the public sector, she has served as a gubernatorial appointee to the State of California Child Development Policy Advisory Committee, a supervisorial appointee to the County of Los Angeles Child Care Planning Committee, a mayoral appointee to the City of Los Angeles Mayor’s Advisory Board for Child Care, and the Pasadena Partnership for Children, Youth and Families.

 She has consulted extensively with California First 5 Children and Families Commissions from multiple counties in California, worked with architects and their clients in designing child care centers, and a variety of agencies in organizational and workforce development.

 Please join me in congratulating Dr. Dianne Philibosian on this appointment.  I would also like to take this opportunity to thank Dr. Louis Rubino for serving as Interim Director this past year.
