“We ♥ Our Veterans Week” to Celebrate CSUN Student Veterans with Special Events at the University Student Union

Northridge  The Veterans Resource Center (VRC) of the University Student Union (USU) invites all students, faculty and staff to a weeklong celebration honoring CSUN students who have served in the U.S. military during “We ♥ Our Veterans Week”.  From Sunday, Nov.5 through Veterans Day on Saturday, Nov. 11, this annual celebration will be packed with a wide range of activities recognizing CSUN’s Student Veteran population. Everyone in the CSUN campus community is welcome to join in on the fun!

“The Student Veterans at CSUN bring a special strength, pride, experience and courage to our campus every day. These events are an opportunity to show them the appreciation of the entire campus,” said VRC Coordinator Patrina Croisdale. “We ♥ Our Veterans Week not only celebrates Students Veterans, but it also provides entertaining and informational activities for the entire campus.”

On Sunday, Nov. 5, Sigma Tau Alpha will start off the week will start off with their “5K Fun Run” and all are encouraged to register and participate You can also join in the fun by just cheering on the participants from the sidelines! Check in for all runners begins at 7:30 a.m. and the event starts at 8 a.m. Following the 5k, everyone will head over to the Sierra Quad Lawn at 1 p.m. to participate in the placement of a powerful display featuring a U.S. Flag Garden with individual flags honoring every Student Veteran on campus.

On Monday, Nov. 6, you can learn more about the Student Veteran experience by attending the “Joining Forces: Veteran Ally Training” from noon to 2 p.m. presented by the Veterans Resource Center in the Tujunga Room at the USU (1st Floor, East Conference Center). If you can’t make Monday workshop, the VRC will be providing another one on Wednesday, Nov. 9 from 9 to 11 a.m. at the same location.

On Tuesday, Nov. 7, the Veterans Resource Center will host the “Community Pancake Dinner” from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. in the Flintridge Room of the East Conference Center. Attendees can network while enjoying a delicious meal and learning about the many great programs the VRC has to offer.

Then on Thursday, Nov. 9 from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. in the Plaza del Sol at the University Student Union, everyone is invited attend the “CSUN Students & Veterans Party on Plaza”. This event is free for all to enjoy and will feature free food and fun activities like a Humvee photo-op!

Friday, Nov. 10 has a celebration in store especially for all Veterans at CSUN. At 6 p.m. in the Matadome, the “Military Appreciation VIP Party” exclusively welcomes Veterans to be recognized for their service to the nation and the campus community. Veterans interested in attending can register at the VRC’s website. That same evening at 7:30 p.m., Veterans are invited to attend the CSUN Men’s Basketball game with Life Pacific College.

Then, on Veterans Day, Saturday, Nov. 11, the week of celebration will conclude with the CSUN Student Veteran Organization participation in the “San Fernando Valley Veterans Day Parade”. The parade will take place in Mission Hills, beginning at 11 a.m. at the intersection of San Fernando Mission Boulevard and Laurel Canyon Boulevard.

That evening, there will be a special event at the Valley Performing Arts Center (VPAC) at CSUN with the “architecture-in-motion” performance art group DIAVOLO. Come experience their “25-Year Anniversary Marathon” with an outdoor festival from 11 a.m. to 11 p.m. open to the public and a special ticketed performance in the Valley Performing Arts Center at 7 p.m. (tickets are on sale now at www.valleyperformingartscenter.org).
