The University Student Union (USU)’s Executive Director Debra L. Hammond was presented with the Legacy Leader Award at the Association of College Unions International (ACUI) Annual Conference in March.
This award recognizes individuals who have served as leaders within the college union profession and have worked throughout the industry to advance campus community building.

“Debra Hammond has brand recognition within ACUI. Nominators spoke to her compassion, commitment to new professionals, and transformational leadership skills,” stated ACUI on its Distinguished Honors webpage. “From the strength of her words and actions, her bright smile, to her infectious energy and recognizable laugh, Hammond has an impact on those around her. She is a servant leader who has directly and indirectly shaped the landscape of student affairs, student union work, and ACUI.”
Executive Director Hammond shared her appreciation for the staff that helps support CSUN students on campus.
“It has been a pleasure,” Hammond told her staff at a recent meeting. “I’m so grateful to work at CSUN with such incredible staff, faculty, administrators and even more wonderful students.”
