Students Wanting to Make a Difference at CSUN Encouraged to Run for a Seat on the University Student Union’s Board of Directors Now

February 9, 2018

Northridge — The University Student Union (USU) is inviting all CSUN students interested in making important decisions to improve campus life, while developing their own leadership skills, to run for a position on the student-led USU Board of Directors (BOD) during the elections this Spring Semester. Ten of the seventeen Board members are students. The CSUN students who are elected will act as the voice of change for the entire student body and be able to make decisions that will have a lasting, positive impact on the Matador community and campus life.

Right now, every CSUN student has the opportunity to apply and run for election to the Board. Interested candidates can submit their online application now until Monday, March 12 at 5 p.m. Elections will be held on Wednesday, April 4 and Thursday, April 5.

“The Board of Directors understands how important it is to have student representation, especially with the USU’s core goal of maximizing the CSUN experience for all students,” said Freddie Sanchez, USU Associate Director, Marketing & Programs and USU Elections Advisor. “It never ceases to amaze me how students who serve on the Board develop and grow as leaders of their campus community.”

The USU Board of Directors has an impressive track record of being responsible for many positive changes and additions to CSUN. Over the last few years, the BOD has approved the launch of the Student Recreation Center, Veterans Resource Center, Pride Center and the Oasis Wellness Center.  This past year, the BOD also approved funding for the CSUN Food Pantry and the MataCare Grant. Working with the Board can help students reach new heights personally and leave a lasting legacy for future Matadors.

In addition to working with faculty and staff in running the multi-million dollar University Student Union corporation, the BOD always acts in the best interest of students as they initiate and approve policy and legislation, support USU marketing efforts of its programs and services, and assist in overseeing financial matters for the USU, and more.

All students interested in running for a seat on the USU Board of Director may apply on csun.edu/usu/boardofdirectors/application. For further information on the USU Board of Directors, please visit csun.edu/usu/boardofdirectors.
