Students to Vote May 1–2 on “The New Heart of Campus” Referendum presented by the University Student Union

WHAT:
The University Student Union (USU) encourages all CSUN students to vote May 1 and 2 on “The New Heart of Campus” Referendum, either online or at a polling location. This proposed new facility will include innovative new construction and renovated structures to offer a modern, culturally inclusive and sustainable destination for all Matadors where connections with people, programs, flexible spaces, and nature will deepen their CSUN experience. WHO: The student leaders of the University Student Union are responsible for this referendum.

WHEN:
Polling Locations—Wednesday, May 1 and Thursday, May 2 from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m.
Online Voting—Wednesday, May 1 and Thursday, May 2 from 8 a.m. to 7 p.m.

WHERE:
Polling Locations are Arbor Grill, Matador Campus Store and Sierra Lawn. Referendum ballot will also be sent the CSUN email address of all students. WHY: This referendum is intended to enhance the overall campus experience for every student through innovative expansion and key renovations.

BACKGROUND:
Created by CSUN students for CSUN students, the USU is proposing “The New Heart of Campus”, a renovation and expansion project that will include the construction of a new 79,800 square foot facility and 49,900 square feet of renovated space. The new facility will include increased lounge and study spaces, outdoor shaded seating, enhanced food options, event and meeting spaces, entertainment & gaming spaces and a new center for unity in race, intersectionality, social and environmental justice. The proposed renovations will include updating existing USU indoor and outdoor areas, meeting rooms, lounges and study spaces. “The New Heart of Campus” would be scheduled for completion in 2022-23.
