New Appointment to the USU Board of Directors

February 5, 2021

Graduate Student Robert Jacome became the newest member of the USU Board of Directors last month when he was appointed as a Student Representative and Co-Chair of the Facilities and Operations Committee.

Jacome, who earned a bachelor’s degree from CSU Channel Islands, is a first-year student in the Chicano/a Studies graduate program at CSUN. He also is a member of Project Rebound, a college matriculation and support program for formerly incarcerated students. Jacome said he hopes to use his life experiences to help shine a light on important issues that students are facing today.

“My time in prison made me realize, the great importance of education and the importance of a voice for those individuals that are marginalized and demonized simply because of a position in mainstream society” said Jacome.

The CSU Project Rebound Consortium supports the higher education and successful reintegration of the formerly incarcerated through mentorship.

“Having come from an impoverished background and previously being incarcerated, I feel that I will be able to use my past experience to better serve the student body, and be an advocate for inclusivity in the academic setting. “

The next USU Board of Directors meeting will be held on Monday, Feb. 15 via Zoom. For more information about the USU Board of Directors, visit the USU Board of Directors webpage.
