Connect with Students from Other Colleges and Celebrate Black Culture at Essential Talks: Black Chat

March 9, 2021

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Northridge- The University Student Union (USU) and University Counseling Services (UCS) at CSUN are working in collaboration with California State University, Dominguez Hills and California State University, Los Angeles, to invite students from each school to gather together and cultivate their community through dynamic conversations about the power of Black culture during Essential Talks: Black Chat. On select dates from Tuesday, March 9 to Tuesday, May 18 at 3 p.m., this series of programs is designed to create a safe space for African/Black students to meet and discuss important and provocative topics. Join us for a chance to open up and connect with your peers about politics, pop culture, Black Fatigue, goal setting as a Black student, societal challenges and today’s climate at different colleges.

“I am extremely excited not to only bring a program like Black Chat to CSUN students, but to students at CSUDH and CSULA as well.” said Pero Akinbohun, Coordinator of Programs and Black Student Success Initiatives. “Each school’s Black students experiences differ simply based on geographical location and I am excited to be able to hear the variety of perspectives that will be discussed.”

Essential Talks: Black Chat will welcome and encourage all attendees to contribute new perspectives through your own lens and feel validated in your personal experiences and emotions while discussing a wide range of meaningful and relevant topics. Be sure to register online through March 9 for the first installment of the series and join us on Zoom to experience, celebrate and recognize your community with the help from your school and its resources.

Join us for Essential Talks: Black Chat to meet Black students from other colleges and share your own experiences during these important conversations. This program is proudly funded by the CSUN Diversity & Equity Innovation Grant. For additional information, please visit www.csun.edu/usu.
