USU Tech Tips

If you’ve ever wanted to become more tech savvy, learn how to Photoshop or use CSUN Technology with ease, attend a Tech Tips workshop at the USU Computer Lab! We’ve got fun and informative classes for you to choose from, and best of all, they’re free! We offer all of the programs you’ll use most frequently on campus. Choose from beginner and advanced classes to learn or perfect your skills in Photoshop, Illustrator, Excel, campus technology and more!

How to Register for a Workshop

Signing up for USU Tech Tips is easy. Just follow the steps below to register and download the software before each workshop.

STEP 1
Select “Sign Up for a Workshop”

STEP 2
Choose the class you’re interested in

STEP 3
Review the dates and times available

STEP 4
Select “Sign In” and then “Register” for the class you want.

STEP 5
Review the course details and select “Check Out”

Next you’ll receive a confirmation email with the details of that session and other setup info including:

  1. A link to set up Zoom.
  2. Instructions on how you will receive the Zoom invite link 20 minutes before the workshop start time, sent to the same email address that you received your confirmation email.
  3. Links to download free Microsoft Office and Adobe Cloud software for each workshop.
  4. Instructions on how to cancel registration.

Make sure you’ve got the programs you need before each workshop!
Note: downloading may take some time, so be sure to install any software prior to your workshop.

Tech Tips Workshop Descriptions

Canva

If you want to take your presentations and branding to the next level, Canva is your tool! Our comprehensive class teaches you everything you need to create stunning presentations, logos and posters. From navigating the platform to adding content like shapes, charts and media, we'll teach you all the basics. And for those who want to take their skills to the next level, we'll cover advanced techniques like group projects, customizing fonts and templates. By the end of the class, you'll have all the tools you need to create professional-quality presentations and branding.

Campus Tech & Software

The Campus Technologies & Software class will feature some of the great tools and programs offered to CSUN students such as Box.com, Wireless Printing, Lynda.com, myCSUNsoftware and more including a portion on Google Drive. Find out how to navigate the interface and learn how to organize your drive with different tools. You’ll also get an in-depth look at Portfolium, CSUN's electronic portfolio network for students and alumni.

Excel I

This class is designed to help you gain the necessary skills to create, edit, format and print basic Microsoft Excel worksheets. Students will learn and become more familiar with the terminology and navigation of Excel, along with entering and editing data, formatting cells, working with graphs and printing your worksheet.

Excel II

Develop the skills necessary to use pivot tables, create and manage macros, audit and analyze worksheet data, utilize data tools and collaborate with others. This class will give you a better understanding on how to sort data, inserting tables, using text columns and how to find and use formulas.

Illustrator

Join us at this class and learn new techniques to help you develop your own personal brand! You’ll learn to work with different artboards and navigate through the tools you need to begin your vector artwork. Find out how to create shapes, add images, text and more to make your project pop. 

Photoshop I

Master the fundamentals of Photoshop and make your digital images look their best. This class covers non-destructive editing techniques using layers, masks, blend modes and adjustment layers. Find out how to perform common editing tasks including color and tonal adjustments, customizing the toolbar, sharpening, retouching and more.

Photoshop II

Learn how to edit portraits like a pro! This class will go over retouching essentials like removing blemishes, smoothing skin, brightening eyes and more. 

Recommended Photoshop skill level: Intermediate.

Word II

Learn advanced techniques such as working with tables of contents, footnotes and endnotes, adding comments, inserting and editing Smart Art and more to help you become an even better Wordsmith!
