Universal Design Center Student Paraprofessional

The Universal Design Center (UDC) team is seeking student workers to assist in our efforts to promote accessibility and usability standards and best practices campus-wide. 

Universal Design Center Student Paraprofessional (PDF) 

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS

The appointed student assistant will primarily assist the UDC office coordinator in the maintenance of daily office operations and will perform various duties in regards to UDC accessibility and usability mission which include but are not limited to the following:

  • Assist in scheduling and coordination of all document accessibility training events
  • Actively participate in document accessibility training events as a lab assistant or a training specialist.
  • Review and develop accessible documents such as Word and PDF
  • Perform various clerical duties such as copying, running errands, answering phones, scheduling meetings and greeting visitors to the office
  • Conduct research on accessibility and usability standards in regards to document and web accessibility
  • Assist in the tracking of office inventory and equipment
  • Assist with editing of project reports and other documents
  • Perform end-user and manual testing and analysis for the web application accessibility testing projects based on accessibility testing criteria and guidelines 
  • Perform assistive technology and functional testing 
  • Assist with other task and projects as assigned

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Current CSUN Student
  • Able to commit to at least one academic year minimum
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills
  • Excellent grammar and proofreading skills
  • Familiarity with Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook), and Adobe Acrobat Professional XI
  • Ability to use a PC and Mac Platforms.
  • Ability to learn things quickly
  • Ability to problem solve
  • Ability to take feedback and be open to constructive suggestions
  • Ability to develop and maintain effective working relationships with staff and students
  • Understanding of Accessibility is a plus
  • Knowledge of HTML and web technologies is a plus.

HOURS

  •  Up to 20 hrs per week based on overall office needs.
  •  Available to work at least 4 hrs. per day.

CLASSIFICATION

Student Assistant Class II or III, dependent upon skillset. 

SALARY

Depending on skills and experience.  Starting wage is $10 per hour.

Universal Design Technical Student Assistant

The Universal Design Center (UDC) is in search of students with a technological background and an interest in web to be part of our team as a Web Developer and Tester Student Assistant.

Universal Design Technical Student Assistant (PDF) 

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS

  • Perform accessibility testing and research technology solutions for web, applications, and documents
  • Perform testing of institutional resources on different devices and cross-platform compatibility
  • Create documentation of testing results, errors found, research findings on accessibility criteria
  • Assist in developing, implementing and testing codes for web pages
  • Assist team as needed

 QUALIFICATIONS: 

Required Qualifications:
  • Current CSUN Student
  • Commit to One academic year minimum
  • Knowledge of HTML, CSS, and JavaScript
  • Ability to analyze and interpret webpagesource codes
  • Team Player
  • Strategic thinker and problem solver
  • Able to work 10-20 hrs per week or as needed.
 Preferred Qualifications
  •  Knowledge of Html 5, css3, jQuery UI is a plus
  •  Knowledge of AJAX, PHP and SQL is preferred
  •  Understand web accessibility standards
  •  Engineering & Computer Science, Arts, Media & Communication, Science and Mathematics, and Business & Economics Majors Preferred. 

JOB SCHEDULE

  •   Up to 20 hrs per week based on overall office needs.
