Summer eLearning Institute

Wednesday, July 1, 2020 - 10:00am to Friday, July 31, 2020 - 5:00pm

Location:
Online

The eLearning Institute is back this summer with a hybrid online program designed to help faculty apply the CSU Quality Learning and Teaching framework to design online courses. Geared toward faculty who have completed Get Up to Speed with Online Teaching or other eLearning programs, this institute will combine flexible, asynchronous, self-paced materials with optional, synchronous, Zoom sessions. Together we will dive into the CSU Quality Learning and Teaching (QLT) framework while you work on prepping your Fall courses. Funding of $750 is available for faculty who complete the course activities, complete a self & peer review and complete an ePortfolio.

Program Details

When is it?

Begins July 1 and will include access to facilitators until August 1. The program is flexible so you can start and finish at any time during that window of time to interact with the materials. Faculty who wish to receive the stipend will have additional time in August to work with a mentor to finish their course. Regardless of your level of engagement, all the materials will be available to you for as long as you need it.

Depending on your bandwidth, you might choose to complete the program in an intensive week (or two), or you might enjoy spreading out the process across a month. This is designed to flex to your summer needs.

Who should enroll?

This is for faculty who want to work on actually building a Fall course and receive feedback.

Faculty should apply who have already completed some eLearning exposure such as: Get Up to Speed with Online Teaching program, the Chancellor’s Office Intro to Teaching using QLT, Online Teaching & Learning Series. This program focuses on quality online course design and pedagogy and assumes participants already have working knowledge of instructional technology tools. We recommend taking Faculty Technology Center workshops to supplement this program if you need to develop those skills. This program is largely self-paced so you will need to learn through reading/videos, completing activities and using discussion forums. There will be optional live sessions on Zoom for further interaction.

Is there funding?

Funding of $750 is available for faculty who complete the course activities, complete a self & peer review and complete an ePortfolio.

What are the program goals and objectives?

Designed for CSUN faculty who want to go beyond just the basics of teaching remotely and move forward using quality standards to design effective, engaging and efficient online courses. Using a combination of self-paced learning and synchronous meetings faculty will be able to pace their learning in a flexible program that focuses on how to apply the CSU Quality Learning and Teaching framework in designing online courses.

  • Describe the Quality Learning and Teaching (QLT) framework
  • Explain how you can use QLT during the different stages in course design
  • Identify elements from QLT that you are already using in your teaching
  • Identify elements from QLT that you are NOT using in your teaching
  • Discuss areas where you need to update your course materials for teaching in online environments
  • Apply strategies from QLT in the design of your course
  • Evaluate your course using the QLT Self-Review process
  • Reflect on what you learned from the process so you can make future enhancements to your course
