Zumbathon® at SRC to Raise Money for Breast Cancer Cure

October 22, 2014

Northridge—The Student Recreation Center at the University Student Union is inviting all CSUN students, faculty, staff and community members to join together to help take a step towards a cure for breast cancer at the fourth annual Zumbathon® in the Red Rings Court at the SRC on Wednesday, Oct. 29 from 5:30 to 8 p.m., doors open at 4:30 p.m. The event is dedicated to supporting Breast Cancer Awareness month and providing a positive, healthy way to support the fight against breast cancer.

“We are looking forward to a large turnout for Zumbathon® this year,” said Amanda Christianson, SRC fitness coordinator. “It’s a fun, calorie-burning dance marathon and all proceeds from ticket sales will go to Susan G. Komen® for the Cure Foundation.”

Participants will dance to the beat of high energy music for almost two hours while learning fun and entertaining Zumba® moves and listen to breast cancer survivors share their stories. Tickets can be purchased now at the Associated Students Ticket office for only $10 and through

Last year, nearly 300 people filled the Matadome in memory of Mary Jane Smith-Walden, a former CSUN Kinesiology Instructor and CSUN Hall of Fame Volleyball player. Smith-Walden passed away almost three years ago after battling breast cancer.

A large and exciting crowd is expected again for this year’s engaging Zumbathon® event. All participants are highly encouraged to wear pink in support of Breast Cancer Awareness Month and join the cause through social media at #STEPTOWARDSACURE.
