TUC Sponsored Programs

Revision of Faculty Effort Reporting Procedure

October 30, 2017

Dear Principal Investigators and Research Administrators:

I am very pleased to announce another improvement project as part of our PRO-PI series:  Sponsored Programs is going to implement a revised Effort Reporting procedure that will significantly ease the administrative burden for faculty members working in sponsored projects.

Beginning with the reporting period Fall Semester 2017, Sponsored Programs will no longer generate the Faculty Effort Reports and send them to faculty members for certification. Instead, we will use the data provided by the campus-wide Special Pay system and newly created reports to generate effort reports on request. As a result, faculty members will no longer be directly involved in the effort reporting process. This will help to reduce your administrative burden.

This significant change became possible with the implementation and adaptation of the campus-wide Special Pay system and the implementation of the new federal rules and regulations for grants, the Uniform Guidance (UG).  The new procedure can be found at https://www.csun.edu/sponsoredprograms/effort-reporting .

During the past months, Sponsored Programs has worked very closely with the Chancellor’s Office of Audit and Advisory Services to ensure that this new procedure is sound and will be able to withstand internal and external audits. We are proud to state that the procedure is the first of its kind within the CSU.

As part of our PRO-PI mission, we are committed to continue our endeavor to search for other projects to ease the administrative burden for our PI’s.

Best Regards,

Georg
