Outstanding Faculty Award:
Professor Scott Plunkett, Psychology
Professor Scott Plunkett is particularly skilled at mentoring students in research. He maintains three very active lines of research with a lively lab. He has mentored numerous undergraduate and graduate students actively engaged in research. These students have co-authored many publications and presentations with him. His guidance has produced an amazing track record of his students choosing to go on to obtain masters and doctoral graduate degrees. His research activities provide his students with experience in many campus projects designed to assist students from under-represented groups such as MARC, RISE and BUILD PODER.
His classes, known to be very challenging, are in high demand and enjoy long waiting lists of students. Numerous faculty and students have expressed their strong gratitude and appreciation for his help and his contributions to their success. Over his many years of service, he has been recognized with numerous awards including Polished Apple, Psychology Honors Faculty Excellence, Professor of the Month, Excellence in Teaching, Favorite Faculty, and the Don Dorsey Excellence in Mentoring award among others.
His service to our university and community has been outstanding. As an example of his efforts, the Psychology Department is one of the largest departments on campus in terms of both majors and headcount. He has designed and conducted the assessment activities of this large program for several years and led the last program review including writing the report and organizing the external review.
