About this Pilot Program

Are you considering graduate school? Are you wondering what graduate school even is? Are you a freshman, sophomore or a new transfer student who wants to understand what you should be doing now as an undergrad in order to prepare?

You're in luck! The College of Social and Behavioral Sciences has Peer Mentors-- we are students here in your college who want to answer your questions and show you the ropes.

We are offering two different Zoom workshops, and we hope you'll consider joining us for one or both! You can find the RSVP to those workshops here: Peer Mentor Workshop RSVPand we'll send more information and the Zoom link to students who RSVP. We are also available to answer any questions you might have at GradStudiesPeerMentors@csun.edu, and are available to meet one-on-one with you if you want any guidance or support. We hope you'll take advantage of this great resource!

Workshop 1: Grad School 101

  • October 27th 5:00-6:00 PM
  • November 3rd, 4:00-5:00 PM

The idea of graduate school can be overwhelming-- we are here to help you understand what you need to know to make choices for yourself and your future. This is a workshop for new(er) CSUN students (freshmen, sophomores, and transfer students) who are exploring the possibility of graduate school. It will introduce graduate school basics: types of degrees, how long they take, how much they cost, what career paths they prepare you for, what you do while you're there. The Peer Mentors will answer all your questions and help you gain an understanding of your options down the road. RSVP @ Peer Mentor Workshop RSVP.

Workshop 2: Using Your Time at CSUN to Prepare for Graduate School

  • October 12th, 5:00-6:00 PM
  • November 16th, 5:00-6:00 PM

There are so many cool things you can be doing during your undergrad at CSUN, but sometimes it is hard to figure out which activities would be best for you. This workshop will provide hands-on opportunities for new(er) CSUN students to explore what they might do to best prepare for success in the graduate school admissions process, and what skills to build to prepare for success in graduate school. The Peer Mentors will guide you in looking at resources specific to your major or intended career, including clubs, organizations, internships, campus jobs, research opportunities, community engagement, etc. You'll leave this workshop with ideas of things you can get involved in at CSUN that will help build your resume for graduate school success! RSVP @ Peer Mentor Workshop RSVP.

Please let us know if you have any questions related to these workshops or to grad school in general: GradStudiesPeerMentors@csun.edu. We hope to see you at the workshops!
