Program Overview

The Brotherhood of Scholarship and Excellence (BroSE) CSUN Rising Summer Leadership Program is a week-long residential experience designed for high school aged males.

Rooted in the mission of the CSUN College of Social and Behavioral Sciences, the program supports academic achievement, leadership development, vocational exploration, entrepreneurship, and community engagement for young men identified as at promise.

Through immersive instruction, mentorship, and hands-on experiences, participants develop leadership capacity while exploring college pathways and career opportunities.

    Participants engage in:

    • Entrepreneurship and business fundamentals
    • Investing fundamentals
    • Cultural exploration
    • Fitness and nutrition development
    • Mentorship and team building
    • Community engagement
    • Educational field trip

    The BroSE Rising Summer Leadership Program aims to:

    • Increase college attendance and vocational success
    • Support long-term retention and graduation outcomes
    • Provide early exposure to higher education opportunities
    • Develop leadership, life skills, and independent thinking
    • Encourage entrepreneurship and community engagement

    Participants will:

    • Live on the CSUN campus for six days (Sunday afternoon through Friday evening)
    • Reside in CSUN Student Housing
    • Receive all meals during the program
    • Participate in structured programming from 7:00 AM – 8:30 PM daily
    • Engage in supervised evening reflection sessions

    Participants are expected to fully participate in all scheduled activities.

    Adult chaperones are on site at all times.

    The program team includes:

    • Program Director
    • Assistant Program Director
    • Five adult group leaders (current CSUN students)
    • Nationally and regionally recognized youth education professionals
    • Representatives from higher education and community agencies

    Group leaders reside in the residence halls and accompany students throughout daily programming.

    • High school aged males
    • Preference given to students completing sophomore year and rising to junior year
    • Must be available for the entire program duration
    • Application required
    • One letter of recommendation from a school advisor, teacher, or mentor
    • Limited to 30 participants

    Application Deadline: May 31, 2026

    • Applications are reviewed weekly on a rolling basis.
    • Early submission is strongly encouraged as space is limited and may fill before the deadline.

    Please note:  Applicants are required to submit letters of recommendation with their application. We strongly encourage you to submit two (2) letters of recommendation, but a minimum of one (1) letter is required.


    Letters may be written by a high school counselor, teacher, coach, school administrator, or mentor. Each letter must be signed and include the recommender’s name, title, and contact information. Screenshots, short notes, or text messages will not be accepted.

    Please request your letter(s) early to allow your recommender sufficient time to prepare them. Applications without at least one formal letter will be considered incomplete.

    There is no cost to participate.

    Participants will receive:

    • Program t-shirt
    • Certificate of completion

    Participants are responsible for transportation to and from CSUN.

    8:15–8:50 AM – Breakfast
    9:15–10:30 AM – Class Session
    10:45 AM–12:00 PM – Class Session
    12:30–1:15 PM – Lunch
    1:45–3:00 PM – Class Session
    3:30–4:45 PM – Class Session
    6:00–7:00 PM – Dinner
    8:00–8:30 PM – Daily Debrief with Group Leader
    8:30 PM–6:30 AM – Free/Reflection Time
